Homemade Solar Panels

Although high energy prices are painful in the short term, they can force us to think about energy alternatives that are far more sustainable and healthy in the long term.

In the past, solar just didn't make sense for the average homeowner, due to the sky high costs of installation. Even with tax rebates and other government-backed incentives, what homeowner would install a $20,000 or $30,000 system?

But now, thanks to technological advances in solar cell technology and sky high home energy prices, the historically hight cost of solar power is finally starting to make economic sense. The high savings of going solar now make for a reasonable return on the initial investment required to install a solar panel system.

What makes solar even more attractive is the recent popularity of "DIY solar panel" courses and kits available online. As interest in homemade solar panels has grown, several solar "gurus" have taken it upon themselves to teach the rest of us how to save hundreds of even thousands of dollars making solar panels ourselves.

Although some home owners may be intimidated by the idea of building a solar panel or array of panels themselves, the availability of used solar cells, inverters and other standard solar equipment make it easier and faster than ever before.
